Community Event

A Social Event doesn’t need to be big or expensive.

Ottawa Community Housing organized a Social Event that builds connections, reduces isolation and brings a smile to people’s faces with a bucket of fresh strawberries, lemonade and a good will!

The Strawberry Social at Russell Manor was organized by the Ottawa Community Housing for their Senior tenants—with the support of South East Ottawa Community Health Centre.

Janice Canning, Julie Picard and Lydia Botros (SE Ottawa staff) are just a few of the OCH employees who are present in the daily lives of the Russell Manor community; making efforts to build happiness for their Senior tenants. They have become a part of the Russell Manor “Family”

Jean Cloutier,  City Councillor for Alta Vista Ward, supported the event.

Everybody was busy talking, dancing (OCH invited a duo live band), and eating a cake covered with whipped cream and strawberries.

Russell Manor is one of the Ottawa Community Housing – subsidized by the government. It means that most of the tenants would not be able to participate in any of the events outside of their residence due to a lack of funds.

If you are looking for an inspiration for a small event in your community – The Strawberry Social could be one of them.
